The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors are in trouble, as Stephen Curry and company head into Game 3 of their first-round playoff series with the Sacramento Kings down 0-2 without Draymond Green, who was suspended.
Although this first-round series can get turned around very quickly if the Warriors win the next two games, the fact remains that Golden State is facing a formidable opponent that could end the team’s quest to repeat.
If the Warriors get sent packing early in the playoffs by losing to the better-than-expected Kings or in the following rounds, Golden State will have a difficult decision to make on Green, who’ll become a free agent this summer.
Outside of winning it all, Green’s status with the Warriors after this season is up in the air, according to Chris Broussard of Fox Sports.
“Unless the Warriors get to the Finals, or win the Finals, Draymond Green is gone.”

At this point, the Warriors brass could be tired of Green’s act, and his suspension for Game 3 might’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back regarding whether the team wants to attempt to re-sign him this summer.
It’s been a rough season for the veteran forward, as it started with him punching teammate Jordan Poole in practice, which somehow leaked to the press with video footage.
Even though the team seemed to move on from that incident reasonably quickly, the recent suspension sheds more light on the kind of problem Green can be for a title-contending team.
It’ll be interesting to see what direction the team goes this summer regarding Green’s future with the Warriors.
