The New York Mets are 13-7 to open the season despite a myriad of pitching injuries, and it’s mainly because of Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo‘s performances.
The former leads the league in home runs with nine.
The latter has been the perfect spark-plug at the top of the Mets lineup.
Nimmo, who signed a lucrative eight-year deal this offseason to stay with the Mets, is hitting .368/.488/.500 with a home run, three stolen bases, and a 179 wRC+.
Whereas the vast majority of hitters strike out more often than they walk, Nimmo has 15 bases on balls against just eight punchouts.
The diversity and versatility he brings to the table is evidenced by his rankings across several offensive categories.
“Among MLB players that have exclusively played CF this year, Brandon Nimmo ranks: 1st in fWAR, 1st in H, 1st in BB, 1st in AVG, T-1st in OAA, 2nd in OPS, 2nd in wRC+. Best CF in baseball, non-Mike Trout division?” SNY tweeted.

Not only he is among the league leaders in offensive categories such as hits, walks, average, OPS, and wRC+, but he is also dominating on defense.
To the contrary of what some people might believe, Nimmo possesses a quality glove in center field, evidenced by his league-leading two OAA (Outs Above Average).
He had six last season.
To sum up, Nimmo can do everything on the diamond and is quietly one of the best players on the Mets and one of the finest center fielders in the league.
Trout, of course, is in another tier, but Nimmo can be right up there with Byron Buxton, Luis Robert Jr., and other stars.
