While every fan would argue that the Houston Texans would be crazy not to take a quarterback with their No. 2 pick, the organization might not feel that way at all.
According to insider Peter Schrager, the word around the league is that the Texans aren’t scared to pass on a quarterback with that No. 2 pick and choose to revamp their defense instead.
Schrager pointed out that the team has been ‘intoxicated’ with Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson’s physical traits, with Will Anderson Jr. as another potential option for them with that pick.
Could the Texans really pass on a QB at 2nd overall?

He adds that even though they may not be satisfied with that QB room of Davis Mills and Case Keenum, they could try and get whoever is available when they’re back on the clock with the No. 12 pick.
Also, he pointed out the fact that new HC DeMeco Ryans is a defensive-minded kind of guy, reminiscing of all the top picks the San Francisco 49ers used to strengthen their defense, so it wouldn’t be crazy to think he could be leaning that way.
Schrager believes that the Texans could be making a mistake by going with the best player available in this draft, although he believes there’s a chance they could still get a QB later in the first round.
Even so, with all the buzz around Anthony Richardson and Will Levis, it’s hard to envision them falling right into their laps at No. 12, so they could be forced to trade up to make the most of those two first-round selections they have.
