A long pause finally ended on Monday when, after weeks of anticipation, the New York Jets landed future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
The trade, in the eyes of many, makes the Jets instant Super Bowl contenders while giving them the type of star power they haven’t had in many years.
A casualty of the deal is Zach Wilson, who was the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and was hoping to be New York’s QB of the future for years to come.
But he hasn’t panned out, and he is trending on Twitter.
I know I’ve said this before, but can’t be easy for Zach Wilson to watch his teammates celebrating the addition of Rodgers just two years after the Jets (edited) made him the No. 2 overall pick

Mike White’s HOF ceremony in the locker room last year sort of trained him for this

It has to be easier for Zach to see his teammates celebrating getting a future HOF QB who Zach likes than it was last year when same teammates were cheering when Mike White got starting nod.

Very true, but that’s also not as hard as the #Jets brass (and fans) watching Wilson play the past 2 years.

It’s a tough situation but Saleh’s probably spoken to him. If the Jets still believe in the kid this could be the best thing for him in the end. He gets to watch one of the greats & learn how to play quarterback property.

It’s a performance based job and he ain’t done nothing but Rodgers is one of the top QBs in the game. I can see why they excited it ain’t that hard.

Wilson threw for 3,692 yards and 33 touchdowns while completing 73.5 percent of his passes during his final season at Brigham Young University, and the Jets thought he could bring them out of the dark ages.
But his rookie season in the NFL was very dismal, as he threw more interceptions (11) than touchdown passes (nine) while posting a completion rate of just 55.6 percent and a passer rating of 69.7.
Last season saw no measurable improvement, and as a result, he was benched late in the schedule.
The Jets haven’t had a big-name signal-caller since another former Packer by the name of Brett Favre, whom they traded for in 2008, and they haven’t had a very successful QB since Joe Namath more than half a century ago.
But now they will have Rodgers in the fold, and their expectations for the 2023 season will be as lofty as the Empire State Building is tall.
