In the eyes of many people, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the best available player in the 2023 NFL Draft and the player they expect the Carolina Panthers to take with the No. 1 overall pick.

But others have concerns about his modest stature, as he stands just 5-foot-10 and weighs around 200 pounds.

However, former defensive back and current analyst Devin McCourty says that no one should be concerned or even care about Young’s lack of size and that people should instead focus on how great he has been.

Young threw for 3,328 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2022, and the previous year he put up 4,872 passing yards and 47 touchdown passes.

He has done a pretty good job of protecting the football, as he has thrown just 12 interceptions in the last two seasons, and he won the Heisman Trophy for the 2021 season while leading the Crimson Tide to a win in last season’s Sugar Bowl over Kansas State.

It is uncommon to see an NFL quarterback succeed who is six-feet tall or shorter, but Kyler Murray has found success with the Arizona Cardinals, making two Pro Bowls in four seasons despite being listed at just 5-foot-10.

Perhaps if he will be a great presence in the pocket and have enough mobility to evade defenders while connecting on passes thrown on the run, Young’s lack of height won’t matter too much in the pros.

If he goes to Carolina, he will have DJ Chark to pass the ball to, as well as Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders to take some pressure off him.
