The San Antonio Spurs have had many legendary players on the roster since the franchise was established in 1976.
Their history is rich when considering Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, Manu Ginobili, and head coach Gregg Popovich are a part of it.
But one of the most historic and important Spurs players ever was George Gervin, otherwise known as “The Iceman”.
Gervin turns 71 years old on Thursday, and the NBA is helping him celebrate with the following tweet:
Join us in wishing a Happy 71st Birthday to 12x All-Star, 4x NBA scoring champion and 75th Anniversary Team member… “The Iceman,” George Gervin! #NBABDAY pic.twitter.com/Vo1Lv8OenE

Gervin was a shooting guard and small forward back in the day, being named to 12 All-Star teams while winning the scoring title four times.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Gervin is that he accomplished all 12 All-Star appearances in a row from 1973 to 1984.
At the start of his career, Gervin had a chance to join the NBA and play with the Phoenix Suns.
Instead, he chose to stay with the ABA and the Spurs.
A few years later, the Spurs officially joined the NBA, and Gervin was immediately one of the most fascinating stars in the league.
He was putting up more than 30 points and five rebounds per game in one phase of his career.
Gervin played in the league until the mid-80s and was still producing more than a dozen points per game.
He would eventually move overseas to continue his career, but San Antonio was never far from his heart.
In fact, the George Gervin Youth Center in San Antonio still assists young people in need, connecting them to social services in the area.
Gervin is a Spurs legend and one of the franchise’s biggest success stories, so it’s no surprise he is being celebrated on his big day.
