The Houston Texans stole the show to start the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, as the struggling NFL franchise drafted Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud at No. 2 and then traded up to No. 3 to take linebacker Will Anderson Jr. out of the University of Alabama.
The move to bring in Stroud to be their franchise quarterback wasn’t all that surprising, as many expected the Texans to draft a quarterback, with Stroud being the likely candidate with Bryce Young off the board.
However, no one expected Houston to make a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to end up at No. 3, and now the team has two players to build around on both sides of the football, which speeds up the rebuilding process for the Texans.
After making some bold moves in the first round, team chairman and CEO Cal McNair spoke to the media and shared some insight on why the team chose to go in the direction they went with Stroud and Anderson via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Along with bringing two potential franchise players on both sides of the football, the Texans hired a new head coach in DeMeco Ryans, giving this team the perfect opportunity to start fresh in the 2023 NFL season.
There’s no telling how things will go with Stroud and Anderson or even Ryans calling the shots on the sideline next season, but Houston has set itself up to make some noise in the years to come if the moves end up paying off in the near future.
