The stage is set for an epic battle between two of the greatest players in NBA history during the second round of the playoffs, with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers going head-to-head with the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry.

Ahead of Game 1 on Tuesday in San Francisco at the Chase Center, James was asked about his longstanding rivalry with Curry and his thoughts about the upcoming series against the Warriors.

After Lakers practice on Monday via Mark Medina of The Sporting Tribune, James let it be known he has nothing but respect for Curry, who has gotten the best of the superstar forward three out of four times in the NBA Finals.

As expected, the Warriors are favored to come out on top in this series, with the first two games set to be played in the Bay Area before shifting to Los Angeles for Game 3 and Game 4.

Not only will both teams be playing to advance to the Western Conference Finals and to take a step closer to playing in the NBA Finals, but the legacy implications are also huge for James and Curry.

Curry and James are competing to win a fifth NBA title this year, which would put them in another category of greatest as they’d join the likes of Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant while adding a new dynamic to the greatest-ever conversation in the NBA.

Only time will tell how things pan out in this series, but it would be safe to assume it will be another competitive series that could go the distance.
