Over the last few years, the Philadelphia 76ers have gotten close, but not close enough.

They have repeatedly fallen short of their goal of making the NBA Finals, despite strong work from Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Ben Simmons, James Harden, and others.

There are still many playoff games to participate in, but the Sixers are looking good right now, especially after Monday night’s win over the Boston Celtics.

The surprise victory in Boston has many people talking, including Kendrick Perkins.

“This is nothing new. Doc Rivers used to winning games in that arena!!!” Perkins said on Twitter, reminding fans that Rivers had a legendary run in Boston when he was head coach of the Celtics.

“I tried to tell my brother @stephenasmith earlier today don’t count these 76ers out!!!” Perkins enthusiastically added.

Rivers was the head coach of the Celtics for nine seasons and became a hero during that time.

He helped them become Eastern Conference champions twice and also earned them a Finals victory in 2007-08.

After his time with the Celtics, Rivers moved on to the Los Angeles Clippers before making a new home in Philadelphia, where he has been for three seasons.

The Sixers have made the playoffs for years now but they haven’t gotten further than the semifinals.

There is a lot of hope among fans that this will be the year they capitalize on their potential and the “process” finally pays off.

Perkins is right that Rivers is used to winning games in Boston but can his team win two in a row?

The Celtics might fix their problems from Monday, which means Game 2 could pose more challenges than Game 1.
