The Atlanta Falcons went 7-10 last season, finishing last in the frightfully weak NFC South and missing the playoffs, and their outlook for 2023 was bleak.
But in last week’s draft, they were lucky enough to snag University of Texas standout running back Bijan Robinson, whom many feel has superstar written all over him, and they also took offensive tackle Matthew Bergeron.
All of a sudden, the Falcons have a solid young core on offense.

Robinson had 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground in 2022 for the Longhorns, and he will be aided by Tyler Allgeier, who had a strong rookie season in 2022 with 1,035 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Through the air, Atlanta has wide receiver Drake London, one of the best rookies at his position last season, who had 866 yards and four touchdowns, plus tight end Kyle Pitts.
Pitts tore his MCL last season, which limited him to 10 games and just 356 yards and two touchdowns, but as a rookie in 2021 he collected 1,026 yards while making the Pro Bowl.
But the big problem for the Falcons is the quarterback position.
With Marcus Mariota, their starter in 2022, headed to the Philadelphia Eagles, Desmond Ridder is projected to be under center next season, and he didn’t do much as a rookie in four starts last season to create excitement among Atlanta fans.
The hope is that is relatively weak division and conference overall may give the team just enough of an opening to fight for a playoff spot if things break right for them.
