The Cincinnati Reds announced on Tuesday that they are calling up shortstop prospect Elly De La Cruz.
De La Cruz has some of the loudest tools baseball has seen in recent times.
Only Oneil Cruz might be comparable from a physical or skills standpoint, just to get an idea about the kind of player we will now be seeing in the majors.
The vast majority of fans haven’t had the joy of watching him run the bases in a matter of seconds, or hit a ball a mile.
However, those who have been following him for years know he is a special player.
“Not going to lie: I am very excited for so many people to be able to now watch Elly De La Cruz on a daily basis. Said it the other day: When you talk about things he does it sounds like you’re telling tall tales. But they’re real. And now you get to see them. Buckle up, kids,” Reds analyst Doug Gray tweeted.

This is a guy who had a 30.9 percent strikeout rate last year in Double-A and improved it to 26.9 percent… in Triple-A.
This is a guy who has hit 40 home runs and stolen 58 bases across three levels since the start of the 2022 campaign.
His batting average finishes in High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A since the beginning of 2022?
.302, .305, and .297.
It’s hard to find someone who hits the ball harder than De La Cruz.
He will be competing with Cruz and Giancarlo Stanton for the yearly leaderboards on that front.
He can do it all on a baseball field.
If he stays healthy, the world might be witnessing the birth of a new superstar soon.
