Before Monday night, the Denver Nuggets were one of the few franchises that had never won an NBA championship.
They had several great players dating back to their days in the ABA, but they hadn’t even reached the ultimate stage since the merger.
Alex English, Carmelo Anthony, Dan Issel, Dikembe Mutombo, Allen Iverson, and many more could never do what Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray did.
That’s why the fans had plenty to say when the Nuggets finally got over the hump, with some mocking this “easy” title run and others showering them with praise.
Congrats @nuggets ! Well deserved, you swept my Lakers and went on to beat the Miami Heat. Truly amazing

Truth be told, this championship run did look easy for the Nuggets, but that’s thanks to their own merits.
They dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves with ease, and then were able to weather the storm against title-favorite Phoenix Suns.
Then, they swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four close games to prove that they were ready to get over the hump once and for all.
The Miami Heat fought hard and even handed them their only home loss of the playoffs, but this title was Denver’s to lose from the very beginning of the playoffs.
Of course, they’ll now have a tougher time going back-to-back, as everyone in the league will be aiming for their crown and trying to put together their roster with the sole purpose of slowing them down.
But their championship core is still young and most of their pieces should stay together for the foreseeable future, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see them reach the big stage again in 2024.
