The Lakers Have A Lingering Mo Bamba Question

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a season in which the team was able to defy the odds and go from a franchise that looked destined to miss the NBA playoffs to playing in the Western Conference Finals against the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

Even though the Lakers were swept by the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, the storied franchise proved to be a force to be reckoned with while having some pieces the team could build around moving forward.

The additions of Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, and Jarred Vanderbilt were steps in the right direction, but some of the other acquisitions, like Malik Beasley and Mo Bamba, left something to be desired.

Unfortunately for Bamba, the 25-year-old center didn’t get much of a chance to show what he could do in Los Angeles as he dealt with injuries throughout the postseason.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the team will have to decide on Bamba’s future in the coming weeks, as they could waive him before his contract for next season becomes guaranteed later this month.

Although it looks like Bamba is back on track to return to the floor sooner rather than later, it may be too late to change his fate in Los Angeles, as it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the team move off him before the deadline.

It would probably be a good idea to free up some money and potentially get a frontcourt upgrade in NBA free agency, which gets underway on June 30.
