New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe has shown some nice power this season, with nine home runs as of Wednesday afternoon.
He has also shown off his wheels, with 14 stolen bases.
However, it’s safe to say he has been a well-below average hitter so far in his rookie season.
He is slashing .191/.264/.357 with a .620 OPS and a 71 wRC+ (100 is the league-average performance).
There has been talk about demoting him to Triple-A (a level that the Yankees had him skip except for a brief 22-game stint last year) in recent days.
However, both chairman Hal Steinbrenner and manager Aaron Boone confirmed this week that sending Volpe to Triple-A is currently not an option they are considering.
The young hitter was asked what he thought about the two prominent Yankees personalities having his back.
“Anthony Volpe on the votes of confidence he received from Hal Steinbrenner & Aaron Boone: ‘I’m pretty out of the loop on a lot of things. I just treat every day the same,’” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted after a chat with Volpe.

Volpe recently confessed that he found a flaw in his swing after hanging out with friend and former minor league teammate Austin Wells.
It wasn’t so much with his swing, but with his batting stance.
In his first game after noticing the flaw, Volpe went 2-for-4.
Perhaps it will be the start of a hot streak that dissipates all the rumors.
We don’t know, but young prospects often take time to fully develop.
