Most reports say that the Houston Rockets have a pretty good chance of acquiring James Harden this summer.

If that happens, it could radically transform the future of the team and make them playoff contenders again.

But if they miss out on Harden, the Rockets will still try to rebuild a lot in the offseason.

According to Mike Scotto, Houston will “go after” Los Angeles Lakers phenom Austin Reaves if they can’t sign Harden.

If the Rockets don’t land James Harden this summer, it’s believed they will go after the Lakers’ Austin Reaves, per @MikeAScotto.

The thought of losing Reaves is heartbreaking to fans of the Lakers.

In just two years, the energetic and driven guard has become a favorite and a very important part of the team’s offense and defense.

In 2022-23, he produced 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists with a strong 52.9% field goal percentage.

During the playoffs, he stepped up to 16.9 points and 4.6 assists a game and shot 44.3% from the three-point line.

Reaves will be a restricted free agent in the summer, which means that multiple teams will try to sign him to a new deal.

The Lakers will have a chance to match those deals, of course, and most reports say they will work hard to keep him on board.

That means they might have to dish out quite a lot which would leave them limited when it comes to other contracts and changes.

The fact that the Rockets are contemplating multiple different moves in the summer, with or without Harden, shows how seriously they are taking this offseason.

They ended last year in 14th place in the West with a 22-60 record.

They definitely don’t want that to happen again.
