This may be the slow time of the NFL offseason, but teams are still able to make moves.

One team that has been in the news about a potential trade is the Washington Commanders.

They have defensive end Chase Young, whose fifth-year option was not picked up.

That means this will be the final year of his rookie contract.

So it would make sense for the Commanders to look to trade him.

According to Ian Rapoport, he does not get the sense the Commanders want to trade Young.

They hope Young can stay healthy this season and show the ability that made him the second-overall pick in 2020.

It is rare for a top-two pick to not have his fifth-year option picked up.

But the Commanders are upset with his inability to stay on the field.

In his rookie year, he played 15 games and won Defensive Rookie of the Year.

He recorded 7.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

But over the next two seasons, Young played a total of 12 games.

Washington decided to make this year a prove-it year for Young.

He needs to show that he can stay on the field and play at a high level.

If he can do that then he will be in for a major payday after the season.

If not, he will no longer be a Commander.

Rapoport mentioned how it is possible that Young could be moved at the trade deadline.

If the Commanders fall out of contention they could try and move the edge rusher to a contending team.

Either way, this season will be a turning point in Young’s career.
