The Pittsburgh Steelers have found great success as an organization over the past several years.
Ben Roethlisberger was a large piece of this, but their defense was highly touted as well.
While the Steelers defense was dominant for the majority of the past decade, they took a slight step backward in 2022.
Alex Highsmith, one of the team’s linebackers, has recently declared that the Steelers “can be the best defense in the NFL,” via the team and Nick Shook.

The Steelers defense was decimated by injuries last season.
Highsmith believes that the Steelers can build on the success they had last year, saying, “If we can build on that, we can be the best.”
He also said, “We have a lot of guys who have bought in and are talented as well.”
If they are fully healthy, as Highsmith suggests, this year could look a lot different on the defensive side of the ball.
This is great news for the Steelers offense as well, which is still growing under Kenny Pickett.
Pickett is the Steelers’ first attempt at a franchise quarterback since Roethlisberger left the organization.
As he continues to fine-tune his game, it will be especially important for the defense to put him in the best possible position.
The AFC North has only gotten stronger during the offseason, which could present its own set of challenges during the season.
However, all the Steelers can control is how they prepare, which seems to be going well if Highsmith’s comments are any indication.
