Kyrie Irving’s game-winning shot over Stephen Curry in Game 7 of the 2015-16 NBA Finals is one of the greatest shots in the history of the league.
It’s not just the shot itself — which was great — but the fact that it capped off the greatest comeback in NBA history, with the Cleveland Cavaliers coming back from a 3-1 deficit against the record-breaking 73-win Golden State Warriors.
Today marks the seventh anniversary of that iconic shot and incredible milestone.
However, even though plenty of time has passed, Klay Thompson still can’t bear to watch that footage.
Seven years ago today, the Cavs came back from down 3-1 to beat the Warriors in the 2016 Finals.

In an appearance on Matt Barnes’ and Stephen Jackson’s “All The Smoke,” Thompson admitted that he still cannot believe how he conceded that switch.
And even though he later admitted it was all a part of the defensive scheme and praised Curry for his defense, it still burns him to this day.
Notably, that shot might have changed the course of NBA history as we know it.
It helped LeBron James fulfill his promise of winning a ring in Cleveland, and it led the Warriors to pursue Kevin Durant in the offseason.
Without that shot, James would’ve probably gone ringless in Cleveland, not to mention he would’ve lost another NBA Finals series.
The Warriors would’ve won back-to-back and may have never pursued KD, meaning maybe they don’t become a dynasty.
Whatever the case, Thompson will never be able to get over that dagger and truth be told, the same can be said of most NBA fans and connoisseurs of this game.
