The Phoenix Suns made the most shocking and unexpected move during the 2022-23 NBA regular season, with the team making a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire superstar forward Kevin Durant.
It was the first bold move under new owner Mat Ishbia, but it certainly wasn’t the last, as he has kept his foot on the gas now that the NBA offseason is underway.
Over the weekend, Phoenix made another blockbuster trade, with the Western Conference heavyweight acquiring star guard Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards.
Although many knew Beal was on the verge of getting moved and controlled his own fate with a no-trade clause, the Suns acquiring him is something no one saw coming, and it has propelled them to be the favorites in the West, according to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins via NBA on ESPN.

This is only Perkins’ opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt, but it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that the Suns have found the missing piece to the championship puzzle in Phoenix.
However, the team is incredibly thin outside of its four stars, with Durant, Beal, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton only taking the Suns so far.
Phoenix has no depth moving forward, which could prove costly, especially with the team heading into the foreseeable future with these four massive contracts.
Although the team is thin on the bench, that could change in the months to come if they find a trade partner for Ayton, resulting in multiple players coming to Phoenix, which may be the only way the team can go from here.
