Obi Toppin was the No. 8 pick in the NBA Draft just three years ago.

He burst onto the national scene at Dayton and was one of the most exciting players to watch in college, and it seems like his game would translate perfectly to the pros.

Toppin has given the Knicks plenty of solid minutes since entering the league, yet Tom Thibodeau hasn’t exactly unleashed him thus far.

And now, according to Stefan Bondy, via NBA Central, the young power forward is reportedly not satisfied with his role on the team.

Obi Toppin is a name to watch on the trade market, per @SBondyNYDN

“A source said Toppin was frustrated at times with his role, although he refrained from complaining to the media.”

The report also states that Toppin hasn’t complained, but he could be a name to watch in trade talks, especially as the NBA Draft approaches.

Notably, Thibodeau has never been known for giving his young players a long leash.

He usually rides with his starters until they’re exhausted and gasping for air, so things don’t look quite encouraging for him while Thibs is still running the show, especially if Julius Randle is also there.

The Knicks have been much improved over the past couple of seasons, and Toppin has most definitely made a strong case for getting more minutes.

Toppin is still on a team-friendly contract, and whichever team is intrigued by his services could sign him to an extension almost right away, thus making him a valuable asset.

It might take a lot to get him unless the Knicks want to use him as a trade chip to land a big-name player on the market.
