Much like when superstar forward Kevin Durant came into the NBA in 2007, French phenom Victor Wembanyama has been blowing people’s minds with what he can do on the basketball court with his size and slender frame.
A lot of people said that Durant was too skinny and wouldn’t be able to handle the physicality of the league, but he went on to prove his doubters wrong and win two titles with the Golden State Warriors while cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.
Although injuries eventually started to take a toll on Durant later in his career, he is still going strong and battling for another title on the star-studded Phoenix Suns.
As for Wembanyama, he’s got a long way to go before he can officially quiet his critics, as he hasn’t even suited up for the San Antonio Spurs yet, who’ll almost certainly take him No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft on Thursday.
Former NBA player Chandler Parsons marveled at Wembanyama’s talent, as he admits a player of his size at 7’5″ shouldn’t be able to do what he can on the hardwood via FanDuel TV.
“You shouldn’t be able to do the things he can do with the basketball.”

To put Wembanyama’s size into some perspective, he’s one inch shorter than Yao Ming, who could barely move and dominated the game for a short time before injuries got the best of him.
With the game being dominated by international players these days like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and Nikola Jokic, it’ll be interesting to see if Wembanyama can follow in their footsteps and show us something we’ve never seen in the NBA.
