Stats Show A Promising Trend For Kristaps Porzingis

In the NBA, the center position has been experiencing a revival over the last few years, despite what some pundits have been saying.

The Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic just won a world championship and Finals MVP, not to mention the regular-season MVP the previous two seasons, while Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers took home this season’s MVP award.

In Southern California, Anthony Davis is one of the best and most unique big men around and about six hours to the north, Domantas Sabonis earned his third All-Star bid and helped the Sacramento Kings earn the third seed in the Western Conference this season.

Kristaps Porzingis of the Washington Wizards, at least based on his statistics, is somewhere in that general vicinity, and those stats have been trending upward over time.

He is reportedly on his way to the Boston Celtics, who are working on acquiring him, and assuming the trade goes down, it could make them the favorites once again to regain Eastern Conference supremacy.

They seemed on their way to a second straight NBA Finals appearance just a few weeks ago after coming back from a 3-0 series deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat to force a Game 7.

Everything was going the Celtics’ way — they had Game 7 at home, not to mention all the momentum in their favor — but they got blown out that evening.

Porzingis had a career season this year by averaging 23.2 points on 49.8 percent field-goal shooting and 8.4 rebounds a game.

He is also a legitimate shot-blocking threat who could supercharge a Boston defense that was, at times, not quite up to par this year.
