Future Hall-of-Fame point guard Chris Paul is on the move, but he isn’t going to one of the teams most expected him to end up with.

The rumors surrounding him lately had him going to the Los Angeles Lakers and teaming up with his good friend LeBron James, or being sent to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Instead, he has been shipped to the Golden State Warriors for Jordan Poole, a second-round draft pick in 2027, a protected first-round selection in 2030, and guard Ryan Rollins, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Golden State is also trading 2022 second-rounder Ryan Rollins to Washington as part of Poole-CP3 deal, sources said. https://t.co/sI1L23FPrE

This represents a pretty significant shakeup for a team that won its fourth NBA championship of the Stephen Curry era just one year ago but got eliminated in the second round of this year’s playoffs by the Lakers.

Paul is 38 years of age, and he will almost certainly be coming off the bench for the Warriors behind Curry.

The point guard’s production has dipped over the last year or two, especially during the playoffs, where he played poorly both this year and last season.

Paul was a member of the Phoenix Suns until he was traded to the Washington Wizards this week in the deal that landed Phoenix Bradley Beal, and while there, he had a very underwhelming performance when they lost at home by 33 points in Game 7 of last season’s Western Conference semifinals to the Dallas Mavericks.

It was clear that the Warriors needed to make some type of move to refresh their championship core, but one has to wonder if one reason they made this move was to appease Draymond Green.

Green, who is the heart and soul of the team, punched Poole just prior to the start of this season, and he is about to become a free agent.
