Not many veteran players are looking forward to building something new in today’s NFL.

But the Chicago Bears found one of the few that actually wants to leave his blueprint on a new project, a guy who’s actually invested in a rebuild.

That guy is Tremaine Edmunds, who recently opened up on his excitement about having the opportunity to play for a rebuilding team:

“I was just excited for the opportunity, man,” Edmunds said, via NFL.com. “I’m a guy, I like when the odds are against me, I like when the odds are against us. I feel like individuals make the best moves when you’re underestimated, and I wanted to go to a team where I could be part of a rebuild. I can be part of turning this thing around, man.”

Needless to say, the Bears feel exactly the same way about him.

They’re looking forward to putting as many talented players as they can around Justin Fields, and having the chance to be a leader in this new era was too good for Edmunds to pass on after his five-year stint with the Buffalo Bills, even if it might take a while before they’re ready to compete for a Super Bowl.

Edmunds will join former Philadelphia Eagles veteran T.J. Edwards — who also joined the team this offseason — and Jack Sanborn, who the team has high expectations for after a solid season in 2022.

The veteran defender knows that the Bears might be in for another somewhat long season in 2023, but he’s in no rush right now.

He committed for the long run by signing a four-year deal with $72 million, and having that kind of veteran spreading his wisdom and helping develop winning habits can take a young team a very long way.

The Bears could have a bright future ahead of them, and a lot of that could have to do with the veteran who helped lay the foundations.
