The San Antonio Spurs will look to be extremely cautious with their new prized rookie.
Victor Wembanyama is coming off a long season in France, even playing in the Finals just a couple of days before heading to New York City for the 2023 NBA Draft.
That’s why the No. 1 pick has decided to skip the upcoming FIBA World Cup, where he was supposed to play for the French national team, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Wembanyama will now take some more time to focus on his rookie season, although he does intend to partake in the 2024 Olympics, as he had already stated before.

The Spurs pretty much invented and coined load management, even way before Kawhi Leonard adopted it as the way to handle his entire career.
It’ll be interesting to see how they manage Wembanyama’s minutes early in his career.
He’s proven to be more than capable of being on the floor for 30+ minutes any given night, and he’s already let it be known that he wants to be available early and often.
Wembanyama has suffered a couple of minor injuries throughout the course of his career, but nothing serious.
And the sole fact that he didn’t decide to shut himself down or play half-heartedly after being considered the undisputed No. 1 pick for almost a year speaks volumes of his work ethic and desire to be on the floor.
