It’s been quite a while since the San Francisco 49ers last won the Super Bowl.

Nonetheless, when discussing the best teams in the NFL, they always seem to rank near the top.

That’s why NFL analyst Mike Garafolo debated whether they should be considered an elite team in the NFC right now, and he did come to some interesting conclusions.

Notably, he wasn’t that impressed by Brock Purdy, although he cites that the team still expects him to be ready for the start of the season and hopes he improves as a passer as well.

However, when it comes to their defense, Garafolo believes there’s absolutely no doubt or question about their elite status, as they’re just too stacked and have too many weapons on that side of the field.

Moreover, Garafolo praised the team for how they were able to replace DeMeco Ryans with Steve Wilks, citing that his culture turnaround and leadership with the Carolina Panthers should’ve been more than enough to grant him an opportunity to be a head coach somewhere else.

The Niners have had some of the best defensive coordinators in the league for years now, with Ryans taking over Robert Saleh, and both of them getting the nod as head coaches as well.

There’s no denying that they could go toe-to-toe with any other team — both in the NFC and the AFC — especially with that defense.

At the end of the day, it might all go come to whether Purdy is as good as they hope and think he is or not.
