The 2023 season has not gone according to plan for the New York Mets.
After winning 101 games last year and reaching the postseason for the first time since 2016, the Mets have fallen on hard times again in 2023 and now own a record of 35-43.
They are also 16 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East, despite having the highest payroll in all of baseball.
Their offseason was a busy one, as they added pieces such as Justin Verlander and Kodai Senga.
However, this season has been a far cry from expectations.
On Twitter, SNY posted a list of some shocking numbers the Mets have put up this year.
The Mets this season are:
13-13 against the NL East
8-8 against the NL West
10-10 against the AL
4-12 against the NL Central pic.twitter.com/Ridg4GWCu7

Against their NL East division rivals, New York has gone just 13-13.
They are 8-8 against teams in the National League West.
Against teams in the American League, New York owns a record of 10-10.
Surprisingly, their biggest struggles have come against the NL Central, which is a relatively weak division.
After Monday night’s crushing loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, New York is 4-12 on the season against the NL Central.
Milwaukee leads that division, but is just four games over the .500 mark.
To add insult to injury, the Mets have lost 16 of their last 21 games and are 3-7 in their last 10.
They also own a shocking -19 run differential.
It’s safe to say that the Mets have performed well below expectations this season and are headed towards a rocky finish.
They are on a similar path to the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals, who also have performed below expectations.
