The National League is currently home to three of the most disappointing teams in all of baseball this season.

The San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Mets were all expected to be clear contenders this season.

However, all three teams are well below the .500 mark despite the talent on their respective rosters.

Each team has struggled immensely this season and currently find themselves slipping in the standings with just over three months left on the calendar.

On the MLB podcast “Fair Territory,” Ken Rosenthal discussed these three teams and what the future may hold for them as the season progresses.

Rosenthal noted that it is very possible that all three of these teams will ultimately miss the postseason.

The esteemed MLB reporter stated that he still believes St. Louis can win a weak NL Central if they make some good trades at the deadline and “get their act together.”

He also noted that the Padres and Mets have great talent on their roster and are more than capable of going on a run and getting back in the mix.

However, none of the three teams have been able to pull themselves out their respective ruts.

The Mets came into Monday’s game having lost 15 of their last 20 games before dropping another one to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Rosenthal also recalled how Xander Bogaerts called out his Padres teammates after losing a series to the woeful Washington Nationals, saying that their supply of “tomorrows” is running thin.

Such is the case for all three teams as we approach the All-Star break.
