The Phoenix Suns had one of the best coaches in the game — at least record-wise –, but that didn’t stop them from parting ways with Monty Williams.
New owner Mat Ishbia has made it loud and clear that he intends to compete at the highest level, and he’ll be aggressive and do whatever it takes to achieve that.
With that in mind, he found perhaps the best guy available for the job in Frank Vogel, who also beat some very qualified men for the job.
When asked about why he wanted to coach the Suns, Vogel claimed that he loved the fact that the team hadn’t won an NBA championship, citing that he now has the opportunity to do what the Denver Nuggets did for the city.

Vogel also said that he loved ‘everything’ about this chance, even the city of Phoenix.
Needless to say, not many coaches would’ve turned down the opportunity to coach Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, and the Suns have had a solid defense over the past couple of years, which is also a big part of what Frank Vogel does.
Even so, this team only has six players under contract at the moment, and they don’t have a lot of cash to spare.
That means they’ll have to sign multiple fringe rotation players or try and convince veterans to take some major discounts to pursue a ring in the desert.
Depth and health were the Suns’ biggest issues last season, and as good as Vogel is, those are still the same issues now.
