The New York Mets were expected to be one of the top teams in the NL this season.

Coming off a 101-win campaign last year, the Mets brought back most of the same roster.

They even added reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander into the fold.

Yet the Mets have been nothing but a disaster since the beginning of the season.

It all started in spring training when they lost closer Edwin Diaz to a torn ACL in the World Baseball Classic.

That seemed like a bad omen for a team that was headed downhill fast.

Currently, the Mets have a 36-43 record and are 16.5 games out of first place in the NL East.

Their only chance of making the playoffs will be via the Wild Card.

According to Laura Albanese, Mets owner Steven Cohen said: “There’s nobody to blame. It’s across the whole team.”

“There’s nobody to blame. It’s across the whole team,” Steve Cohen says. Implies that if they don’t improve, Mets will be sellers at the deadline.

Cohen also pointed out how the Mets will be sellers at the trade deadline if they do not improve.

That means the Mets have one month to get back into the playoff picture before the August 1 trade deadline.

Cohen was accurate in saying the whole team is to blame.

Both the hitters and pitching staff have had bad moments this season.

The Mets have a team batting average of .240 and their team ERA is 4.58.

Both rank in the bottom half of baseball.

This next month will be crucial for the Mets organization.

If they continue to struggle they will lose the fanbase and get crushed by one of the toughest media markets in the county.
