The Houston Rockets have more than enough cash to spare right now.

They’re flooding with cap space, as their roster is mostly full of young players.

But now that Ime Udoka has arrived in town and they reportedly want to compete for a playoff spot right away, it’s a matter of time before they start spending some big bucks to get some star power.

With that in mind, Chris Haynes (via NBACentral) reports that they’ve become a big frontrunner to land former Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma.

Kuzma played himself into a big contract and borderline All-Star consideration last season, bursting out as a primary scoring option on the sluggish Wizards.

He can spread the floor with his shooting skills, and he’s big enough to play at both forward spots and even some small-ball center.

His defense has also improved every year he’s been in the league, so it wouldn’t surprise to see him fetch a big payday in free agency.

As for his fit or need on the Rockets, that’s a whole different discussion.

Truth be told, they’ve gathered an elite set of young talents, and they don’t seem to have a big need for a small or power forward at the moment.

The Rockets are doing right by investing in veterans, but they might be better off pursuing a point guard and some role players that could help them build winning habits and turn their culture around, rather than a guy that’s only going to limit their prospects’ development.
