The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly had some doubts about signing Russell Westbrook last season.
Paul George publicly advocated for him, and he responded by putting the team on his shoulders in the playoffs once their stars fell with injuries.
The Clippers rewarded Westbrook by doubling down on their commitment to him and giving him another two-year contract, albeit at a major discount.
Notably, even if Westbrook’s deal will make him roughly $8 million over two years, Skip Bayless still thinks it was a bad contract.
I can make a case Ty Lue is the NBA’s best coach. I understood his drive late last yr to prove he could win with Laker discard Westbrook (w/o Kawhi, PG). But to try it again w Russ next full season – even for very little $$$ – is mind boggling. Even Ty Lue can’t win with Russ.

Bayless — who has a never-ending list of anti-Westbrook tweets and rants — points out that Tyronn Lue only signed Westbrook to prove that he’s the best coach in the NBA, as in, “I’m so good that I can even win with Westbrook.”
Granted that Westbrook’s best years are far behind him, but he’s not a scrub by any means.
He meshed well with their locker room, and despite some nights off, he proved that he still has more than plenty left in the tank.
Bayless’ comments on Westbrook and LeBron James should always be taken with a grain of salt, as he’s often made things personal when it comes to both, up to the point where even Russ’ wife took notice — and offense — of his comments and called him out for them.
Westbrook is a future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer playing for under $4 million per year.
There’s no way one could consider that a bad contract, regardless of how much one may like or dislike the way he plays.
