While ESPN wants everybody to be involved in NBA, NFL, and MLB discussions, the viewership has had plenty of things to say about their recent wave of layoffs.
The sports broadcast giant let 20 on-air personalities go as a part of their third wave of layoffs, prompting Stephen A. Smith’s reaction on his very own podcast.
The often outspoken pundit didn’t mince his words and expressed his solidarity for his colleagues, offering words of comfort and predicting that Jalen Rose and Jeff Van Gundy would find new jobs sooner rather than later.
He also went on to say that the layoffs would keep happening, even stating that he could be the next in line.
Needless to say, that prompted plenty of reactions on social media, as fans simply can’t believe that ESPN will let one of their most iconic characters go, and some think not even he believes a word he’s saying.

Apparently, the premise was to let go of most on-air talents making over $1 million, but Stephen A.’s job was never at risk.
He’s obviously one of the highest earners, but he’s also a never-ending source of hot takes, jokes, and viewership.
Some people might not always agree with what Smith has to say, but they’ll still tune in to watch what he’s saying and — more importantly — how he’s saying it.
Even if that were true, Smith is the kind of larger-than-life media personality that would get another seven or eight-figure job just minutes after being let go, so he should have nothing to be worried about.
