The Los Angeles Lakers have been very busy since the start of free agency last week.
Actually, they have been very busy since last February at the NBA trade deadline.
Since then, general manager Rob Pelinka has been making some big deals to improve the team’s roster.
Because of that, they reached the Western Conference Finals.
Stephen A. Smith is quite satisfied with what Pelinka and his front office did last week, saying that the team kept its core and didn’t experience wild alterations to the good thing they have.
“The key thing here is that they’re walking into training camp at the very least with continuity knowing that the pieces they have in place actually fit,” Smith said on First Take.
“I like what they’ve done here. They didn’t disrupt anything,” he added.

Smith is particularly keen on the addition of Gabe Vincent and the improvements to LA’s backcourt.
They definitely have a deeper roster when it comes to guards and perimeter shooting.
Smith is also happy to see that the team is still being built around its iconic core of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
However, he noted that they could still improve by adding another big man to the lineup.
Smith said that the Lakers were already one of the best teams in the West.
That was made evident by their long trip through the postseason.
Instead of really shaking things up, the team has instead elected to make some substantial but smaller tweaks that have enhanced what they already had.
Smith doesn’t believe the team will be capable of defeating the reigning champions but he does think they have a chance at beating any other team in the Western Conference.
