New York Yankees reliever Jimmy Cordero violated MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy and was suspended for the remainder of the season.
The details about what happened are still not known, but the Yankees are removing him from their 40-man roster and won’t pay him the remainder of his 2023 salary.
In fact, the team released a statement about Cordero and the suspension.
“Yankees support the suspension in a statement: ‘There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards and enforcement of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy,’” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

Cordero had been an important part of the Yankees roster to this point.
He was part of one of the best relief corps in the league.
He had a 3.86 ERA in 32.2 innings of work, walking 10 batters and striking out 34.
Other relievers will have to pick up the slack in New York, such as Ron Marinaccio, Michael King, Ian Hamilton, and Wandy Peralta.
As for Cordero, he will take part in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program.
There should be no place in baseball for any kind of violence, and in this case, the Yankees acted quickly.
They will now move on without Cordero and try to secure a place in the postseason.
So far, they have a 48-38 record and are third in the AL East, eight games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and two behind the Baltimore Orioles for second place.
