MLB has a long history of being America’s pastime.
It has forever been a legendary game with many great players.
Many players left a lasting impact both on and off the field.
July 5th has become a special day for baseball and the Cleveland Guardians.
It is Larry Doby Day, as the MLB legend is being celebrated for his contributions to baseball.
As noted by Jon Morosi, this is one of the most special days on the MLB calendar.
Morosi said Doby “played a vital role in changing baseball and our country for the better.”

Doby was most known for breaking the American League color barrier on July 5, 1947.
He came into the game as a pinch hitter and that made him the first Black player in the AL.
His feat came three months after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the NL and MLB as a whole.
Even though Robinson is celebrated with his day, somehow Doby is not celebrated league-wide like Robinson.
Doby played for 17 years and is a Hall of Famer.
He was a nine-time All-Star and won two World Series championships.
You cannot talk about the history of baseball without mentioning Doby.
Jackie Robinson has his No. 42 retired across all of baseball.
Many fans believe that Doby’s No. 14 should be retired across the league as well.
That day may come later on but for now, the Guardians will put on a celebration for Doby on Wednesday.
It may fly under the radar but Doby’s contributions to baseball should not go unnoticed.
