The New York Mets have been one of the major disappointments this season throughout baseball.

Despite a busy offseason in which they bumped their payroll to the highest of any team in baseball, New York has floundered.

They own a 40-46 record on the year and are 18 games back of first place in the NL East.

However, they have won four consecutive games and are just 6.5 back in the Wild Card race.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Mets will be an interesting team to watch.

But even with their current standing, Ken Rosenthal predicted, via Foul Territory, that they could still go on a run and that there’s no reason they shouldn’t make it to the postseason.

“There’s no reason why they shouldn’t (make the playoffs)”

Rosenthal discussed how the Mets will be an interesting team to watch as the deadline approaches.

He acknowledged that they could be sellers and ultimately find a way to trade Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.

However, he noted that it would be hard for them to actually be able to pull that off.

Former Mets star Todd Frazier then asked Rosenthal if the Mets still had a chance to reach October.

Rosenthal said that it’s still possible due to the talent on their roster, but that they’ll have to play like they did in 2022 in order to make that happen.

Rosenthal listed the talent on the team’s roster, which includes Scherzer and Verlander, and also talked about a recent trade they made with the Seattle Mariners to acquire Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott.

In that trade, the Mets took on more salary, and Rosenthal believes that it’s a signal that the Mets are still trying to make some noise.
