The Chicago Bears weren’t exactly a good team last season, which you could tell by the fact that they actually had the worst record and the No. 1 pick.

Still, they were one of the biggest winners of the offseason, flipping that pick for more assets, spending their money wisely, and surrounding their franchise quarterback with the kind of help he needed to take a leap forward.

That’s why NFL analyst Colin Cowherd believes there should be no more room for excuses in the Windy City, going as far as to say that the Bears should be a playoff team in 2023.

That could be a bit of a stretch, though, as the team certainly took several steps in the right direction, but they might not be that much better just yet.

Of course, with the Green Bay Packers losing Aaron Rodgers, the Bears might finally have a chance to beat them, but the Detroit Lions should still be favored to win the division.

Even so, Cowherd says that it’s time for Fields to take that leap, as most young and athletic quarterbacks struggle before that third year when they break out.

Truth be told, there was a point last season when Fields actually looked like the best second-year quarterback in the league, regardless of his team’s evident struggles.

The Bears finally seem to have a plan and clearly have Fields as the centerpiece.

However, it could be wiser to put the brakes on and take expectations down a notch or two while they keep adding more pieces.
