Heading into the NBA offseason, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the immediate future of superstar guard Kyrie Irving, with rumors swirling about his intentions in NBA free agency.
Although the Dallas Mavericks took a chance on Irving by acquiring him before the NBA trade deadline, there seemed to be no guarantee that Mark Cuban and company would get the one-time champion back in Texas next season and beyond.
Once free agency got underway, the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns were linked to Irving, but it didn’t take long for the Mavericks to get the veteran guard to put pen to paper, as he agreed to a three-year deal with Dallas.
With the dust now having settled in the Irving drama, ESPN’s Bobby Marks discovered the details of the perennial All-Star’s new contract with the Mavericks, which, interestingly enough, has some incentives for games played and the team’s success.
Kyrie Irving’s three-year deal is guaranteed for $120 million, sources tell ESPN. He has $6M in incentives tied to games played and team success.

Although Irving is arguably one of the most talented guards the NBA has ever seen, the 31-year-old comes with his fair share of baggage, as he can be controversial off the court and can struggle to stay healthy in order to show what he can do on the hardwood.
That said, it’s a smart move by Dallas to put incentives in the veteran guard’s contract in order to get the most out of Irving over the next three years while the team tries to build a winner with Luka Doncic and the journeyman leading the way.
Only time will tell whether Doncic and Irving can coexist and turn the Mavericks into a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference.
