With growing discontent towards umpires in recent years, Major League Baseball has begun to toy with the idea of having an electronic strike zone in the near future.

The electronic strike zone is intended to give an accurate representation of where pitches are and make certain that ball and strike calls are 100 percent correct.

MLB has been experimenting with this in the minor leagues in recent years, and they ended up trying this at the Futures Game in Seattle on Saturday as the All-Star Week festivities kicked off.

On Twitter, Jesse Rogers of ESPN commented on the use of the electronic strike zone at the Futures Game.

Automated Balls and Strike challenge system is being used here at the Futures Game. Batter challenged a high strike. It took a couple seconds and he was denied. End of inning. That’s likely coming to the majors in the near-ish future.

Rogers revealed that a hitter challenged a high strike call, but was quickly denied after just a few seconds.

The inning was then over.

Rogers also commented on the fact that the electronic strike zone will likely be used in the Major Leagues in the near future.

This is something that fans have expressed interest in.

With less arguments and a more accurate strike zone, it could also help MLB achieve their goals of a faster-paced game.

Fans and players alike have complained about the inaccuracies of home plate umpires’ ball and strike calls.

This would ensure total and complete accuracy and potentially lead to less arguments with umpires.

When this will be used at the Major League level is not yet known.

However, as Rogers noted, it is very likely that it will be experimented with in the near future as the game evolves.
