San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich just signed a massive five-year, $80 million dollar extension with his team.
This, of course, comes right as the Spurs are celebrating their new rookie star, Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama is seen as someone who could change the team – and the league – if he lives up to expectations.
On Sunday night, Wembanyama commented on his boss’s new deal, via ClutchPoints:
“It’s just another sign from him and the franchise that they care about the project. There’s something great going on. We kinda knew it was gonna happen, but now let’s get it rolling. We can get started now.”

The “project” that Wembanyama is speaking about is seemingly himself.
The arrival of the French star has injected a whole lot of hope and excitement into not only Spurs fans but also the coaching staff and other players too.
They see great things on the horizon because of Wembanyama.
Popovich has been coaching the Spurs since 1996 and has become one of the most celebrated and successful NBA leaders of all time.
Some people thought he would retire recently.
But Popovich stuck around, even as his team experienced one of its worst eras ever.
There is speculation that he remained because he knew that San Antonio had a chance at landing Wembanyama in the draft.
That is exactly what happened and now Popovich will be coaching the team for at least the next five years.
It only makes sense that Popovich, who has been called one of the best coaches of all time, will work with Wembanyama, who has been called one of the best draft prospects of all time.
