The New Orleans Pelicans have been quite patient with Zion Williamson.
They’ve often erred on the side of caution when it comes to his plethora of never-ending injuries, ruling him out until he’s ready and confident enough to be back on the floor.
Many NBA players often spend their time off developing new moves, tricks, and shots to add to their offensive repertoire, and Zion has had plenty of time off since he arrived to the Big Easy.
Nonetheless, according to Ric Bucher (via NBACentral), he’s shown little-to-no interest in expanding his offensive game, adding floaters, pull-up jumpers, or any other move that could help him do some more damage while also avoiding injuries.
Zion Williamson reportedly has ‘no interest’ in developing a floater and pull up jumper, per @RicBucher
“Where are the floaters, up and under layups, his pull up jumpers at the elbow? Now from what I’ve been told, he’s shown no interest in developing any of those tricks. Tricks… pic.twitter.com/XIfWfvtpG8

Bucher compared Zion’s situation with Blake Griffin, another former No. 1 pick with injury issues who transitioned his game to stay efficient and effective without putting his body under that much pressure.
Griffin was a perennial All-Star and even led the Detroit Pistons to the playoffs on his own, and even though his career didn’t pan out as most people expected, he still managed to play for years.
Zion, on the other hand, has played in less than 50% of the games since entering the league, and it doesn’t seem like he’ll ever stay healthy at this point.
There’s no denying that he’s a special kind of talent and a dominant physical specimen.
But if his body doesn’t hold up, he’ll either have to adapt or walk away from the game, going down as one of the biggest “what ifs” in NBA history.
