The New York Yankees offense has been one of the most disappointing units in baseball so far this season.
Yes, reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge has been out with a toe injury since early June and had a stint on the injured list in May, too.
However, one would expect a team with Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Anthony Rizzo, star rookie Anthony Volpe, DJ LeMahieu, and other hitters with a very good resume to be among the most productive in the league.
That hasn’t been the case, at all.
As a result, general manager Brian Cashman was forced to make a move to try and resurrect a dormant offense.
He decided to fire hitting coach Dillon Lawson.
“For the first time in #Yankees GM Brian Cashman’s career, he has fired one of his coaches during the season: hitting coach Dillon Lawson. He becomes the fall guy for the Yankees’ hitting woes that have been magnified since Aaron Judge’s toe injury,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

The Yankees are 19th in MLB with 400 runs scored heading into the All-Star break.
You probably don’t need us to tell you that more is expected of them.
Much more.
Rizzo has been slumping for more than a month now, Volpe was “fixed” by a former minor league teammate (Austin Wells, the protagonist of the famous “chicken parm” story), LeMahieu is a shell of himself and has said he is healthy, and the list goes on.
Lawson is getting the blame, even though he didn’t build the roster or choose who plays.
