MLB has turned into a home run-hitting league now more than ever.

Due to launch angle and exit velocities, most players seem to go up to the plate looking to hit the ball far.

That is why we see teams and players setting home run marks year after year.

The Home Run Derby is one event that continues to gain popularity during the All-Star break.

Many of the game’s best players are looking for a chance to compete.

But one player seems to be in it every year.

That is New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.

He has won the competition twice and is hoping to take three of four this year.

According to SNY on Twitter, Alonso called himself a “huge advocate” for the Derby and loves the event.

“It’s fun doing it and I really enjoy it…I wouldn’t say ambassador, but a huge advocate”

His raw power is second to none in the MLB, which makes him so good at this event.

But this year he will have a tall task ahead of him to reclaim the derby crown.

In the first round he must face Julio Rodriguez, who is playing in front of his home fans.

Also, Rodriguez is the one that knocked Alonso out of the competition last year.

It will be a ton of fun to see if Alonso can get his revenge on J-Rod this year.

Most players only do the Home Run Derby once or twice in their career.

So, for this to be Alonso’s fourth time goes to show how much it means to him.

Win or lose it is safe to say this will not be the final time we see the Mets slugger in the event.
