Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been one of the NBA’s rising stars over the last couple of years, and he has also developed a reputation as one of the league’s more brash and outspoken players.

He was recently given a five-year contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million, and it should keep him in Minnesota for years to come.

At the press conference held to announce the extension, Edwards said that his goal moving forward is simply winning, via Tim Bontemps.

Anthony Edwards, at a presser for his maximum contract extension here in Las Vegas, said he has one goal to accomplish under his new contract: winning.

As for this summer, Edwards said he wanted to take part in Team USA as an opportunity to take his game to the next level.

It’s refreshing to hear this from Edwards, as he boldly claimed not too long ago that he’s the best player in basketball.

While he’s certainly a very good player — his 24.6 points per game this past season are nothing to sneeze at — he is nowhere close to being the best in the game.

As far as playing on a winning team, Edwards may not get his wish anytime soon, as Minnesota seems stuck in mediocrity.

Many feel they made a massive mistake last summer when they traded away multiple viable role players and five future first-round draft picks for Rudy Gobert.

Gobert is a good center, particularly on the defensive end, but he failed to make the All-Star team in the 2022-23 season, and Minnesota failed to do anything of note as a team, as they got waxed in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets in five games.

In the meantime, Edwards can accomplish another goal of his by being on Team USA’s roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup and winning himself a gold medal.
