Trades are common in today’s NBA, with teams always wheeling and dealing players and draft picks in hopes of improving their rosters and setting their teams up for a bright future.
One player that has bounced around quite a bit this summer as part of multiple trades is veteran guard Patty Mills.
Even though Mills is still considered a talented guard that can put up points on any given night in the NBA, the 34-year-old has been traded three times during this offseason, with the dust finally settling with the Atlanta Hawks.
According to the Hawks’ Twitter account, Mills has been acquired by Atlanta from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a pretty hefty exchange involving TyTy Washington Jr., Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay, and a future second-round pick.

That is quite a lot of pieces being moved to acquire Mills, but there’s no question that he’s an ideal addition for the Hawks, with the veteran set to backup superstar guard Trae Young, who could use some veteran guidance at this point in his career.
The Hawks are a team with many talented players and a legitimate superstar but they haven’t been able to figure out how to put it together when it comes playoff time and, as a result, they get beat by the best of the best in the Eastern Conference year after year.
Although adding Mills isn’t a game-changing move for Atlanta, it does make the Hawks a better basketball team moving forward, which is the ultimate goal of the offseason for the Hawks.
