Over the weekend, it was announced that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will be changing his jersey number again, with the four-time NBA champion going from No. 6 back to No. 23.

This was an unexpected move by James, as it seemed as though he was content wearing No. 6, even though the NBA decided to retire the number following the passing of Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell.

However, James will honor Russell by relinquishing his No. 6 to go back to the number he began his NBA career with and one he’s had the most success wearing, according to StatMuse.

LeBron’s career stats when wearing #23:

27.0 PPG
7.4 RPG
7.6 APG

Regardless of his numbers in No. 6 and No. 23, James is still ridiculously productive on the basketball floor and has sustained that production over two decades in the league.

Next season, James will be back at it again after recently announcing that he’d be playing a 21st season in the NBA, even though no one seriously thought he’d retire after he flirted with the notion after getting swept by the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.

Fortunately for James, it looks like he’ll be playing for a championship-caliber team once again during the 2023-24 NBA season, with the Lakers arguably winning the offseason with some solid moves in free agency while keeping its core intact.

James and the Lakers will have their work cut out for them, however, with the Western Conference being stacked and the Nuggets looking like a team that might be able to sustain a championship level for years to come.
