Fans of the NBA knew that Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns was going to be something special from the moment he entered the league.
And a specific game in a memorable Summer League was their first chance to see just how special he truly was.
FanDuel Sportsbook noted that Monday marked the 17th anniversary of Durant putting up 29 points against the Utah Jazz in the NBA Summer League.
On Twitter, Durant gave his own recollection of that day, saying: “I remember watching a fan knock a police officer out as soon as I walked off the bus to go into the gym, time flies.”
While Durant obviously has his own unique view of that day, fans remember being impressed by the potential of the young forward.

Durant had been selected as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, right behind Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers.
He was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics and was thought of as someone who could be one of the best shooters of all time.
Sure enough, Durant has delivered on his potential during his 15 years in the NBA.
He has been named an All-Star 13 times and a scoring champion four times.
Additionally, he earned a spot on the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, as well as league MVP.
He has also won the Finals twice and acquired Finals MVP both times.
That Summer League game in 2007 was the start of a great first season when Durant averaged 20.3 points on 43% from the field.
That got him the Rookie of the Year trophy and it put the rest of the league on notice: a new future Hall-of-Famer had arrived.
