The San Antonio Spurs got their hands around arguably the most unique prospect in the history of professional basketball.
And while his debut in the Summer League wasn’t exactly the most impressive, Victor Wembanayama held himself accountable and was able to bounce back in a big way in the following matchup.
Needless to say, that resiliency and ability to turn the corner so quickly impressed a lot of people, and that includes Jerry West.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend recently discussed Wembanyama’s Summer League performances in an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” raving about his character and how he was able to bounce back.
Moreover, The Logo gave the Spurs rookie a piece of advice, urging him to gain some more weight and represent not only the franchise but the NBA all over the world.
Wembanyama’s weight — or lack thereof — has been a controversial subject long before he made it to the NBA Draft.
Some believe he’s not going to be able to withstand the physicality and the physical demands of the NBA if he doesn’t bulk up, whereas others believe that becoming heavier could be a disservice to his game and his body long-term.
Injury concerns with guys that tall will always be a part of the equation, even if he doesn’t have a history of major injuries.
Whatever the case, the Spurs may have a plan in place already for their prized rookie, and NBA fans can only hope it works and we get to see him fulfill his untapped potential.
