The San Diego Padres have had a really difficult season to this point.
Expected to challenge for the NL West title a season after reaching the National League Championship Series, San Diego is currently fourth in the division with a 44-50 record.
They were swept in their first series back from the All-Star break and are now 10 games removed from first place.
It’s really odd since they have a +36 run differential, but they have had a hard time in close games and just don’t look as sharp as last year despite a seemingly better roster.
Sports anchor Darnay Tripp analyzed the current form of the team, and while his takes might sound harsh for optimistic fans, they are right on point.
I don’t entirely know what to make of this mess of a season, but I do know one thing – Padres fans deserve so much better. pic.twitter.com/9OFqyTcEHC

He blamed the players for underachieving, manager Bob Melvin for not pushing the right buttons, and head of baseball A.J. Preller for putting together a roster that is “big on names but short on depth and cohesiveness.”
Oof.
He did praise fans, though, and said: “you deserve a whole lot better”.
There have been rumblings around the baseball universe that they could opt to trade Juan Soto and replenish their farm system, but that sounds unlikely.
Nobody knows the direction that the Padres will take.
For all we know, they could decide to go for it and acquire some talent at the deadline to help them make the playoffs.
They could also sell, too.
The next two weeks will likely dictate their approach, but one thing is certain: not even the most pessimistic Padres fan expected to the team to be fourth in mid-July.
